Most of us are familiar with Queenstown in New Zealand, what about the neighbouring town of Wanaka located an hour’s drive away? If you have never been, here’s some information that might pique your interest.
Through my eyes, this picturesque town is a hub for outdoor adventures and gastronomical adventures. You can go skydiving, climbing or mountaineering and there are hundreds of kilometers of tracks for hiking or biking. The crystal-clear water of Lakes Wanaka and Hawea as well as rivers are ideal for kayaking, fishing, lake cruises and jet boating, or to get an aerial perspective of the region take a scenic flight and you can even land on a glacier. In winter, Wanaka is a vibrant center for skiers and snowboarders with two ski areas just a short drive from town. This is the main reason for us to be based here in our first week.
