Dear John – A Dad trying to cope with the loss of his Partner and becoming a single parent. – Single Dad, Parents Article

I seem to have upset someone with my last post. The person clearly didn’t want his name mentioning. Sorry I blocked you John. I assume that’s his name from the email address. My finger must have slipped. Ok John, to help hide your identity how about I call you something like Dork Head. According to my new friend, I apparently was disrespectful to the President of the United States. Really…. I must have missed that one. I was also patronising…

Gluten and dairy – A Dad trying to cope with the loss of his Partner and becoming a single parent. – Single Dad, Parents Article

Sorry having to milk the red flowers. They don’t last long and then that’s it for another year. Sadly shopping comes round much more frequently. Another weekend shopping experience to be quickly forgotten. Yes we are always thankful to get some stuff. Things like bathroom rolls (toilet paper) and soap are getting easier to find. Finally some popcorn. Ok it’s just salty but we can add honey to it. But then the inner grump comes out in me. So many…

Busy – A Dad trying to cope with the loss of his Partner and becoming a single parent. – Single Dad, Parents Article

Running round the small garden for what seems like the millionth time and desperately trying to find an excuse to stop for a few seconds. Thankfully a yellow rose is a suitable excuse for a photo pit stop. I’m sat writing this during another brief day pit stop. Son is having a wander round the garden, dreaming and working on what we do next this Sunday afternoon. It will be a short pit stop. Maybe 30 minutes at most. It’s…

Get my head round – A Dad trying to cope with the loss of his Partner and becoming a single parent. – Single Dad, Parents Article

The sun is shining. It’s still cold but we will settle for this. So it’s almost official. School has emailed parents to say that looking at the latest government guidance – which apparently isn’t much – only some Primary pupils and those sitting final exams next year will get any direct teaching over the next few months. The earliest Son will be back in school is going to be September. So it’s time to get our heads round this. Looking…

Leave it – A Dad trying to cope with the loss of his Partner and becoming a single parent. – Single Dad, Parents Article

When we first moved into our home, my sister bought us two plants as house warming presents. 18 years later they are still going strong. The red one doesn’t flower for long but it’s just springing into life. It’s quite amazing that after 18 years both plants are still going strong. I don’t have a great track record with plants. I remember my partner for a joke buying me a plant which was described as – the worlds most resilient….will…

Grieving during quarantine – A Dad trying to cope with the loss of his Partner and becoming a single parent. – Single Dad, Parents Article

As much as I like writing (well my version of writing), my favourite part of blogging is getting to read other blogs. They can make you laugh, cry, think and fill you with renewed hope. One of my favourite blogs is by Katie and Evee. It really captured me as like my son, grief often hits when we are far too young. They talk about it so beautifully. It’s grief with hope, loss with the desire to live again. I’m…

Like new – A Dad trying to cope with the loss of his Partner and becoming a single parent. – Single Dad, Parents Article

Two daily visitors waiting patiently for breakfast. I must clean the gutters…. After yesterday’s unplanned washing of my mobile, I found myself outside in the cold early morning air. Doing a great workout supplied by a very kind friend and listening to music on my super clean phone. Crystal clear sound. In fact it’s never sounded so good. Maybe I should try my body out in a quick machine wash cycle. If only I could fit the car in our…

Bed protest – A Dad trying to cope with the loss of his Partner and becoming a single parent. – Single Dad, Parents Article

Another cold start. Press ups on the grass are definitely cold on the hands. Now set into the daily school at home routine. That’s a better way to describe it. It’s not true homeschooling – its schools version of remote learning. 6:30am – start daily exercise (weights, or army fitness, or exercise bike or running round the little garden) 7:30am – try to get as many home cleaning tasks done 8:00am – Son gets up and has breakfast 8:30am –…
